The BTSS are keen to promote the interests of the Society to local schools and colleges, as well as establish a relationship with students who wish to begin a career in law. The Society has close connections with a number of societies and educational institutions.

Our BTSS Societies and Education Representative, Jane Stimson, attends meetings of the Junior Lawyers Division and is the spokesperson for all Trainee and Newly Qualified Solicitors in the West Midlands. If you would like to speak to Jane, please contact her at jane.stimson@martineau-uk.com.

Jane would also be interested to hear from any members who would like to participate in the College of Law mentoring scheme.

The scheme is organised by the Careers Service at the College of Law and has run successfully for several years. The aim is to give students who have little or limited legal experience an insight into life as a practitioner in the legal profession.

The scheme will run from mid-November until the end of April. The College of Law ask that mentors agree to have at least four contacts with their student during this time, the first meeting being in person. Subsequent contacts may be via e-mail or phone, with the student expected to be proactive in arranging contact.

The College of Law welcomes mentors from all types of firms. However, they would particularly like to hear from mentors who are trainees in smaller/medium firms covering areas of law such as: criminal, family, personal injury, private client and publicly funded areas of law.
